DIVISION V

WORK IN THE PROXIMITY OF ELECTRICAL LINES

 

§5.1. Scope

5.1.1. This Division applies to any construction work carried out near an aerial electrical line.

5.1.2. However, this Division does not apply to:

(a) a neutral conductor;

(b) an insulated cable less than 750 volts of the duplex, triplex or quadruplex

assembly type;

(c) a consumer or distributor branching less than 750

volts;

(d) the electrical installation of the consumer;

(e) the construction, repair or maintenance of an electrical line carried out by a worker of an electrical power company or by an employer authorized by it;

(f) the construction, repair or maintenance of a communications network performed on a structure supporting an electrical line by an employer authorized by an electrical power company; and

(g) work performed near an electrical line 750 volts or less, provided that there is insulation between the worker and the non insulated live parts.

§5.2. Interdictions

5.2.1. The employer shall ensure that no one performs work liable to bring any part, load, scaffolding, machine component or person closer than the minimum approach distance specified in the following table:

5.2.2. The employer who wishes to carry out work liable to bring any part, load, scaffolding, machine component or person closer to an electrical line than the minimum approach distance specified in section 5.2.1, may proceed to such work provided that one of the following conditions is complied with:

(a) that power line has been turned off. He shall ensure that no one runs any risk of being electrocuted before turning the power on again;

(b) the employer has come to an agreement with the electrical power company as to safety measures to be adopted. Before the work begins, he shall transmit a copy of such agreement as well as his work plan to the Commission. Such measures shall be carried out before the work begins and shall be maintained throughout the course of the work;

(c) extensible construction equipment, such as a backhoe, a power shovel, a crane or a dump truck, shall be equipped with a device that has 2 functions:

(i) to warn the operator or to stop the equipment from operating, so that the minimum approach distance specified in section 5.2.1 is respected;

(ii) to stop the equipment from operating, should the device fail to perform its first function.

The device referred to in subparagraph c must be the subject of a written declaration signed by a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec certifying that it performs the functions described in clauses i and ii above and that it neither damages the equipment nor renders it unstable when it stops the equipment from operating. If the device fails to operate partially or completely, or is inoperative, the employer may continue to use the extensible construction equipment for a total of not more than 8 hours of working time, provided that he is assisted by a flagperson who has successfully completed the training course in the program described in Schedule 7.

5.2.3. The employer who carries out work less than 30 metres away from an electrical line with a voltage higher than 250 000 volts shall ensure that the following requirements are respected:

(a) refueling shall be done outside this area;

(b) construction equipment on tires shall be equipped with an electrostatic link between the metallic part and the ground; and

(c) during the installation or manipulation of a metal duct, fence or above ground structure, it shall be grounded every 30 metres.

5.2.4. Before carrying out work near an electrical line held at each supporting point otherwise than by one wooden post, the employer shall obtain in writing the line voltage from the electrical power company.

§5.3. Warning sign

5.3.1. The employer shall ensure that the owner or lessee of any piece of machinery used to lift a load and capable of vertical, lateral or rotational motion, posts on such machinery, in a conspicuous place so as to be seen by the operator, a warning sign reading: DANGER — N'APPROCHEZ PAS DES LIGNES ELECTRIQUES, in letters at least 12 millimetres in height.

Longevity

Product Development

For the past 20 years, OKO has worked in partnership with scientific research centres such as TARRC‘s consultancy division “Rubber Consultants”, to ensure OKO products are suitable for use with all tires and will not cause damage to tire casings, tire structures and metal bracing cords.

Product development continues to be an area of major investment. OKO Group works closely with scientific consultants to find and use the safest possible compounds. OKO puncture sealants are audited by “Chemtox-Trotters” a leading Scandinavian consultancy owned by Bureau Veritas, a major global organisation dealing with certification and social responsibility.

OKO Group continually evaluates the climate-suitability and safety of its ingredients. Materials are chosen to be compatible with wheels and tires.

 

Product Range & Performance

The OKO Research & Development team listen to customers who use their vehicles daily. They then design and engineer an OKO tire sealant that suits each vehicle type. For example, On Road OKO RTG is for Heavy Trucks over 5 tonnes; whereas On Road OKO LCV is for 4x4s, Commercial Vans, most cars and other vehicles under 5 tonnes. Each OKO best suits the tires of the vehicle for which it was designed, in terms of longevity, performance, handling, safety, and effectiveness.

 

 

Market Place Acceptance

OKO puncture sealants have been tried, tested and approved by Governments, Militaries, U.N. organisations, Major Companies, Local Councils and Utilities.

OKO has been approved, used and recommended to other countries worldwide by the British Ministry of Defence. (Some other sealants claim a N.A.T.O. reference BUT the original references of S.E.A.T.O. and N.A.T.O. were achieved after tests with OKO Tire Sealant ONLY).

The world’s largest nickel and palladium mining group has thoroughly tested and has approved OKO for use in all of its fleets after it retained tire pressure long-term following puncture tests: and after it performed faultlessly in temperatures down to -52 degrees C.

Britain’s largest housebuilder specifies only OKO for use on all its construction sites, following competitive tests run by the firm.

Other worldwide customers include companies constructing the new Panama Canal, Polish truck fleets and the Middle East’s largest waste management operation.

In order to control quality of service, OKO does not sell franchises. The OKO Group itself sells via selected worldwide distributors, including OKO Sales Ltd in Great Britain, who sell to the trade and the public.

Automatic lubrication

Automatic lubrication insures a continuous lubrication at a regular intervals the greasing points and the special points which have difficult access. It works while the machines engine is running along when all points are in movement.

The central automatic lubrication is used to control the amount of lubricant distributed on the points where the friction is a problem. A regular lubrication maintains a film of grease which prevents contamination of your surfaces in sealing inter space around each of them. This collar keeps away the dust, sand and water to filter through and create an abrasive surface and prevents premature wear.

How OKO works?

Permanent Puncture Sealing

Puncture sealing depends partly upon centripetal acceleration (often wrongly described as ‘centrifugal force’). This in the case of a moving vehicle is the force of the tyre’s circulation, and it imparts a huge pressure which – combined with the sudden loss of air – when a puncturing object causes a hole, forces the OKO violently into a small space. The squeezing effect causes OKO to deploy as it is designed to do, turning it from a liquid into a flexible but very strong solid that seals the hole almost instantaneously.

Little air is lost and only a few ml of OKO is used: the rest of the liquid in the tyre well keeps on revolving, ready to counter the next puncture, for the legal life of the tyre.

Unlike other sealant companies, OKO has invested heavily in independent testing, using meaningful protocols. To assess whether its seal is genuinely permanent, a strength test was carried out by the world-renowned military testing institution, Gerotek. The tyre industry recognises two ‘permanent’ repair types: vulcanising and plugs. On testing each system to destruction, the Institute found that OKO was 1.6 times stronger than vulcanisation: and 7 times stronger than a plug repair.

People often ask why the OKO does not gum up a tyre valve when you let a little air out. In this situation there is no centripetal acceleration and the OKO is not deployed, also the sealant is not normally in proximity to the valve.

 


 

 

Formulation

OKO is built to last. Based upon water and anti-freeze agents, it is formulated so that all of its active ingredients remain in suspension and no shaking is required. Far too many water-based sealants require you to shake before using – and that is the sign of a sealant that will not work for the long term.

Many people have tried to analyse and duplicate the OKO formulae but all have failed: because some of the most critical elements are present in such small quantities that they will not register in analyses.

We also do not skimp: from the quality of the rubber crumb particles, to the fibres and the powders that act to seal the punctures by bonding with the rubber tread, we select the best, not the cheapest. OKO brings with it added-value benefits that help to lengthen tyre life. All tyres are porous and many vehicles run on under-inflated tyres, leading to uneven tyre wear as a result. OKO seals the tread area, thus reducing air loss. The liquid helps to draw away some heat from the tread, which builds up its temperature the longer it is in motion. Heat and under-inflation are the prime causes of premature tyre wear. The rubber suffers from drying out and the friction effects of the road and the wheel/tyre drag also contribute to wear.
